Human Bodies in the Wild
Ground truth body shape, images in the lab and wild |
Summary: Human Bodies in the Wild (HBW) is a validation and test set for body shape estimation. It consists of images taken in the wild and ground truth 3D body scans in SMPL-X topology. To create HBW, we collect body scans of 35 participants and register the SMPL-X model to the scans. Further each participant is photographed in various outfits and poses in front of a white background and uploads full-body photos of themselves taken in the wild. The validation and test set images are released. The ground truth shape is only released for the validation set.
VALIDATION (images & body scans released):
- 10 subjects/ body scans (6 female, 4 male)
- 781 images (432 female, 349 male)
TEST (images released):
- 25 subjects/ body scans (14 female, 11 male)
- 1762 images (983 female 779 male)
Evaluation: We will evaluate your estimated body shapes on the HBW test set for you. For this, please send a npz file containing the image names and estimated unposed meshes to shapy@tue.mpg.de. You can test your file format using the example files and evaluation script in our SHAPY repo. For reference, the SHAPY validation set results are 63/59/85/54/25 for height/chest/waist/hips/P2P20K.

Model Agency DatasetBody measurements, images, linguistic annotations |
Summary: Our model agency dataset consists of images and body meausrements of 4.4K models collected from model agency websites. The body measurements include height and chest/waist/hip circumference as provided on each model's website. We provide the image URLs (95K in total). For a subset of 1.2K models we collect linguistic body shape annotations. To this extend, we asked Workers on Amazon Mechanical Turk how much a word, such as short or big, applies to the model's body shape.
Short summary:
- 95K images (URLs)
- 4.4K body measurements (height, chest, waist and hips)
- 1.2K linguistic body shape annotations
